Printable Games to Teach Children English (ESL or EFL)

What is the BEST way to teach children English?

Through FUN and GAMES!

Children love to play. Games are fun, engaging and a great way to practice vocabulary and grammar drills without the boredom of textbook style teaching.

Experienced teachers understand the value of games in English classes. The problem is that most professionally produced English language games are not suitable for children whose first language is not English. In many English classes around the world teachers must choose between activities that are educational OR activities that are fun. With our great package of games and teaching materials you can have classes that are educational AND fun!

“Games CAN and SHOULD be EDUCATIONAL AND FUN!”

The key to learning a foreign language, is to actually communicate real words and expressions that have meaning to students. Artificial drills and English used in textbooks don’t really connect with students. EFLfrog.com games provide a real context where students have to talk to each other in natural English to complete the activities.

My games package includes 10 sets of colorful, professionally designed cards with vivid images to help children learn English through fun and engaging games. The first game set Level A, is designed for novice English language learners of approximate age 4 and above. The games can also be used as a supplement to lower level adult classes. Even senior citizens have fun playing the games. Anything is better than those boring text book drills.

But I can make my own games.
Yes, that is true. Many teachers can and do make their own printed games. It is possible to download clipart images and make your own bingo games, card games and board games. What EFLFrog.com offers is high quality games with a consistent theme and design, for a reasonable price. Unless you are a professional illustrator, it will be hard to match the quality of these games. In fact, it is unlikely that you will find any other ESL or EFL  games of this quality and at this price anywhere.

Using our game sets will save you hundreds of hours of preparation time, searching for images, arranging them on pages, editing, aligning, etc. Each game set we sell works out to less than 50 cents per page. Only 50 cents. It would easily take you one or two hours to make each card. If your time is worth more than $0.50 per hour then purchasing this game set will be a great cost and time saving.

Would be good to have it with sounds too

  2. on 07 Sep 2010 at 1:32 pmJohn

    Hi Tanya,

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it. Do you think there should be a CD for the games? How would I add sounds?

I have online games for most of the images on ABCfrog.com but since these are print games for use in the classroom I haven’t thought about having an audio track.

  3. on 07 Sep 2010 at 3:47 pmTanya

Hi John! For example – in pdf you could add sounds and parents of children would be able to get these sounds and record to mp3 or some other ideas, maybe directories for sounds. I do not know but only thought that it is important to learn these words right I mean – with right pronunciation.

just to let you know a typo you made in your last line: “If your time is worth more then $0.65 per hour than ….” The then and than should be switched.

    Dear John
I visited your web around sevenmonths ago when there was no subscription needed. Since that time you’ve done a lot here. I must say I’m really impressed by your work. Believe me, it’s not only the quality of your FLs and worksheets (you call them game sets, for me they look like some regular activity sheets), lovely pictures, the frog and so on, but also incredible logic in your way of teaching and creating EFL materials. I haven’t seen such a well-organised and thought-out content since quite a long time. PROPS for you!
Is there anything for phonics coming out?
    Best Regards

  9. on 06 Jan 2011 at 9:40 pmadmin

    Hi Dorota,

Thank you for the kind words. I do have a series of phonics materials but I haven’t had a chance to get them online yet. It takes a lot of work to get all the resources online. :-(

If there is enough demand I can put a higher priority on phonics. Anyone else want phonics materials?

  10. on 25 Jan 2011 at 7:12 amJenni

    Hi John

I would love to see more phonics materials. I would particularly like to see something following on from first sound “phonics flash cards” to include “ch” “sh” “th” etc etc. Also, I tried to download the “vegetables” flash cards but the link doesn’t seem to work (maybe its me, but I did download the phonics, families and fruits cards).

Love your work – I wish they were around when I was homeschooling my dyslexic son. He now wants to start his kids on phonics ASAP!

  11. on 25 Jan 2011 at 3:16 pmadmin

    Hi Jenni,

Thanks for the comment. I have a phonics game set in the works that will cover all the key stages of phonics but it will still take time to finish.

I just checked the vegetable flash card links in the newsletter. It looks like they are all working. If you are trying to access an old page that is no longer linked on the new website, then you may have trouble with the flash card links. Please subscribe to the free newsletter and all the links should work.

Hi, How can I teach verbs in third person with your flashcards? when adds a “s” …

  13. on 10 Feb 2011 at 10:16 pmadmin

I write sentences on a whiteboard with the “s” hi-lighted in red. You can write simple sentences like. He ______s. She ______ s. and use a magnet to place each flash card on the blank spot of the sentence.

I often review all the pronouns in a chart with “He” and “She” “My mother” at the bottom.

    I _______.
    You _______.
    We _______.
    The _______.
    The students _______.

    ________________________
    He _______s.
    She _______s.
    My teacher _______s.

Hi John. I’m a preschool teacher in Indonesia and i’m really interested in buying this package. Good idea for this , i like it a lot!
I think it will be more appealing if you can provide some video for learners to learn vocabulary visually :) .

    Hy!
Unfotunately, I can’t download neither of the items from your webpage despite the fact that I shared it (facebook) 3 times. When I click on download it still says “you have to share the linke before download” or something like that.
